The prison is massive, the walls about eight meters high.
The courtyard where the execution building stands feels like a place of death. Concertinas of shiny razor wire make clear the prison is still very much in use.
This is where the guillotine stood. Five hooks remain on the steel girder, visible are the rusted fittings where the remaining three hooks were. Prisoners were hanged eight at a time. On one night in 1943 186 were killed this way. This is where Helmuth James von Moltke, great-uncle of Corinna Ponto and descendant of Generalfeldmarschall von Moltke was executed.
