Schloss Colditz

When I was a kid my dad and I had read exciting stories about English airmen escaping from Colditz Castle.

Though the day was warm and sunny up above, these chambers were cold.

Lifesize cardboard cutouts made from black and white photographs reminded us the Colditz experience of English officer prisoners of war had been different from that of German psychiatric patients.

„He took up painting again first of all in Laufen and then in Colditz, where he had the good fortune to have encouragement and criticism from a French artist-prisoner. Many of these paintings were sent back to England by post shortly after they were painted to his wife Kathleen.“
