The Richterin

The Richterin is flying home to Stuttgart this evening after three days in Bosnia, where her sister has a friend from work. She is happy to find someone to speak German with. It is difficult for her to express herself in English. She has not heard of Ralph Nader, but is happy to talk about Angela Merkel, Olaf Scholz, Martin Schulz, Joschka Fischer, and the SPD. I am very happy to find someone in Bosnia who will tell me what the SPD’s problem has been over the last few years. The receptionist gets off the telephone and comes back to the table so we switch to English. The receptionist has not heard of Hartz IV. She explains to the Richterin that women in Bosnia cannot fast for Ramadan when they are on their period. She talks with us about Bosnia’s multi-cultural society until the taxi to the airport arrives.
