Scholz setzt sich außerdem im Zusammenhang mit den Anschlägen auf die Nord-Stream-Gaspipelines für einen Gerichtsprozess in Deutschland ein. „Wir werden herausfinden, wer es war, soweit wir das können“, sagte Scholz am Montagabend bei einem Bürgerdialog in Potsdam. „Und wir werden nicht, weil uns Ergebnis nicht gefällt, das nicht zur Anklage bringen“, betonte er. „Da kann keiner auf Rücksicht hoffen.“ Es gebe keinerlei Indizien, dass die USA oder Großbritannien hinter dem Anschlag steckten. „Wir wollen das unbedingt aufklären“, sagte der Kanzler. Der Generalbundesanwalt arbeite weiter an dem Fall.

What anything means and how to reach common understanding through language has now been privatized and become a possession of the autonomous self. The universe has become the YOUniverse. You choose what’s real to you. This empowerment of the autonomous self is after all the driving, prime directive of the capitalist success story. Any form of solidarity, from the Federal Government to labor unions, and, of course, a socialist political party, is a threat to the disintegration and fractionalization that is a requirement at the heart of capitalist competitiveness. Best is a diversity that dishevels the mind and provokes a chaos of minds lost in the confusion in which what is true cannot be distinguished from what is false. Best is a confusion that can be worked toward profit, a crisis of meaning leading to maximization of profit. Every individual is a market, a personal choice marketing frontier. A market of one mind is death to capitalism. Any brand of unity is defunded by capitalism.

I have no answer as to how the thirst for personal differences shared by capitalism and Democrats transitions/progresses to a flourishing unity out of which we can achieve enough of a common understanding to defend ourselves against a global warming that will destroy us.

Why would a political party begin its campaign with the illusions of personal autonomy, personal choice and individual rights and set its goal there when the truth is plutocratic power has the only autonomy, choice is manufactured as cleverly as Mountain Dew, and the claim of rights is no more than another example of human presumption so easily challenged.

We need to be restrained within the boundaries of both society and Nature. If you want to fight for equity in a society already plutocratically entrenched, why would you assist capitalism in bringing everything down to private control and personal choice when clearly you should be mobilizing solid blocks of opposition? Why would you put individual rights, personal freedom, and choice at center stage when it is clearly societal concerns and connections which could dismount the mission of greed, self-aggrandizement, and a personal will to power that represents our plutocracy now?

Right now, any successful counters to plutocratic power are held, ironically, in low esteem by those victimized and exploited by such power. I refer to government, unions, a free press, and public education. It’s so outrageously ridiculous, so much La Commedia, that only satire would be our default if that and irony had not been already replaced by emoticons/emojis in our digitized communication. If you consider communication capable of creating collective understanding a potential threat to an economic system that benefits 20% and diminishes 80%, you would not be pleased with the way social media in the control of plutocrats has thrown our words into chaos.

Our defenses lie in our language.

My German’s not that good. Obligatory Oppenheimer reference. The Oppenheimer slant I find curious: CND’s Twitter account has had numerous posts with the approach „Having just seen Oppenheimer are you now terrified of nuclear war?“ I thought the movie an interesting biopic of Oppenheimer but hardly frightening about either the effects or chances of nuclear conflict. Anti-nuclear activists are understandably desperate.

Wenn Antifaschisten von der Vergangenheit reden, die AfD aber von der Zukunft, ist das keine günstige diskursive Anordung.

Auch deshalb wirkt der routinierte Antifaschismus hilflos. Klar kann man mit einem Flugzeug und „Scheiß-AfD“-Banner am Himmel über Magdeburg aufkreuzen. Aber das ist eine selbstrefenzielle Predigt zu Überzeugten. Das verweist auf ein kniffeliges Paradox der Anti-AfD-Strategie. Die Wir-ihr-Teilung zahlt womöglich am Ende bei den Falschen ein.

Aussichtsreicher, als auf rituelle Verurteilungen zu setzen, ist es, von Interessen zu reden.

Der Landesvorsitzende der thüringischen AfD, Björn Höcke, forderte am Wochenende die Abschaffung der Europäischen Union in ihrer jetzigen Form. »Es gibt viele Gründe, die EU abzulehnen, sie bringt Europa nicht weiter«, sagt der vom Verfassungsschutz als rechtsextremistisch eingestufte Politiker am Rande des AfD-Parteitags. »Diese EU muss sterben, damit das wahre Europa leben kann.«

Lobende Worte fand Höcke am Wochenende für die Linke Sahra Wagenknecht, die momentan überlegt, sich mit einer eigenen Partei von der Linken abzuspalten. »Dass Höcke ausgerechnet an Sahra Wagenknecht eine Einladung ausspricht, sagt vor allem eines aus: Sie ist die einzige demokratische Politikerin, welche Höcke gefährlich werden könnte«, erklärte der Linken-Politiker und Wagenknecht-Vertraute Christian Leye. »Wenn (CDU-Chef) Merz auch nur halb so gefährlich wäre, hätte Höcke wohl ihm eine Zusammenarbeit angeboten – nicht nur auf kommunaler Ebene.«

Viel Empörung ist in Deutschland deshalb zu hören, viel von Nazis, Rechts­extremismus, Verfassungsfeinden, Demokraten gegen Rechts und Lehren aus der Geschichte. Aber nur wenig von Argumenten, die den Inhalt der AfD aufspießen, zerpflücken oder überflüssig machen. Für die Wahlkämpfe im Herbst, erst recht aber im nächsten Jahr, wenn die Europawahl und die Landtagswahlen in Ostdeutschland anstehen, ist das eine denkbar schlechte Vorbereitung.

In Magdeburg präsentiert sich eine Partei, die Deutschland aus der EU führen will, die das Europäische Parlament für eine Fehlkonstruktion hält und den Euro abschaffen will; eine Partei, die Schengen einschränken, eine „Festung Europa“ bauen und die Einwanderung rückgängig machen will; eine Partei, die in allem, was sie tut, auf die nationalistische Karte setzt. Wenn sie nicht gerade dabei sind, die AfD als Waffe gegen sich selbst einzusetzen: Dagegen die besseren Argumente zu finden, sollte für Grüne, SPD, FDP, CDU und CSU doch wohl ein Leichtes sein. Oder?

Various plans existed for the demonstrative use of a nuclear weapon against Soviet targets to signal that the United States, or NATO, was prepared to use the weapons. The Germans did not wish for the demonstration to take place on German soil. And several of the allies, led by the Canadians, were anxious the Soviets would not understand that the use of nuclear weapons was only a signal, and feared that
such a use would touch off a nuclear holocaust.

By attempting to use NATO as a component of American strategy … the United States had opened up the one question NATO had studiously sought to avoid: How—and why—would NATO go to war?

NATO military plans, since their earliest incarnation, rested on the premise of defense against a Soviet attack. Now, however, the Americans‘ plans considered using military force not in defense but as „gambits in a psychological contest against the enemy.“ Military force, though couched in the language of last resort by the Americans, did not mean a last resort before Western Europe was overrun by Soviet armor but the last resort to keep open access to Berlin.

These plans made interpreting article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty—especially the definition of an „armed attack“ on an ally—more difficult. „When,“ Stikker asked, „does it cease to be an attack and instead the consequence of a miscalculation on the part of some individual country, a miscalculation for which the other members cannot be held responsible?“
